After a long day of travel, luxury hotels are even more satisfying. Our family of four, having just traveled for 23 hours straight, arrived exhausted at the doors of Palacio Santa Clara in Valencia, Spain. A welcome drink of Valencian sweet wine at check-in, luxurious bath robes, oversized towels, and a super comfortable king-size bed with feather pillows are exactly what a weary traveler needs.
Here’s an overview of why this hotel comes highly recommended by us (a family of four).
1. Rooftop Pool

This rooftop pool is the primary reason we decided to book this hotel. In mid-summer with two young children (4 & 7), we knew we would need a way for them to expend their pent up over-tired energies while we simultaneously continued to recover from our long journey.
This pool is small, but honestly so whimsical with the green checkered tile and the kids absolutely loved it. There are four super comfortable lounge chairs, umbrellas that can be moved with staff request and other tables for simply having a rooftop drink or meal.
There is a super neat bar tucked inside a turret that used to be the bank manager’s office when the building used to be a bank.
The view from the roof is beautiful, and the aperol spritz we ordered hit the spot.
2. Prime Location

Location is so important. This hotel is situated in a really nice zone where you can easily walk to fantastic restaurants, gelaterias, shops, and a metro stop.
The moment you walk outside the hotel, you are amidst the lively, sun drenched streets of Valencia. After we cleaned up from our long journey, we were in the mood for some traditional Spanish tapas. We didn’t want a high-end version – just what the average Spaniard is eating on the corner kind of vibe. For this, we enjoyed Toneles.
We enjoyed some of our go-to tapas:
- Croquetas
- Patatas Bravas
- Aceitunas
- Calamares fritos
- Paella Valenciana
And of course we washed it down with some cervezas and tinto de veranos.
For breakfast we enjoyed Honest Greens for a uniquely natural take on tostadas and Via Dolce for pastries and traditional tostadas.
You are not just near restaurants. There is also shopping nearby with clothing stores and interesting shops like Ale Hop.
The rooftop of the hotel is a great place to return to for a night cap with a beautiful view of the city.
3. Warm & Aesthetic Decor

The hotel itself is so inviting. The high ceilings in each room, textured wallpaper, and intricate trim detailing create a high-end aesthetic. I appreciated all the attention to detail from the useful luggage storage furniture with lace curtains to the velvet chairs. The hallways of the hotel truly felt homey – and more like an apartment building instead of a hotel.
4. Luxurious Amenities

The little things truly make all the difference. Oversize towels and luxurious robes and slippers add to your comfort. The vanity kits included in your room help in the event you forget something. We didn’t want for anything during our stay.
Blackout curtains and thick walls made for peaceful nights. I would be remiss to not mention how nice it is to have a Nespresso machine in your room to start the morning off with a jolt.
I can assure you will not regret your stay at this Autograph Collection hotel by Marriott.
You can use your Marriott credit card points to book your stay (this is what we did).
If you are a family with kids, you should know that you will need two rooms if you have more than one child. The occupancy per room is 2. They did say that they can sometimes accommodate three people per room, but four is not going to work to fit in one room as all of their rooms are doubles. We booked two rooms and requested that they be near each other because they don’t have connecting rooms.
This experience reminded me of another trip before we had kids where we had a long travel day and landed at Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville. There really is no way to describe how incredible it feels to take that first hot shower after an international journey. Landing at a Luxury Collection hotel is such a wonderful indulgence.
